This handsome, deepest maroon-black variety is a sport of Queen of Night. New for 2024 Sadly, 'Picture' - the original 'Crown' tulip - is not available this year. We do have this new introduction though, a pink 'crown' tulip sporting a white base. Beautiful, charismatic tulip. The fringing is self-coloured but this colour changes subtly, both as the flower ages and in different qualities of light, producing shades of wine, from claret to burgundy. 'Purissima' is a tulip of huge popularity (not least for municipal bedding schemes, which may be why we have always steered clear of it!). The Lady Tulip – this is the true species and now hard to come by. The petals are white with a broad stripe of carmine red on the outer sides. We introduced this variety to the UK quite a few years ago, after being bowled over by it at Keukenhof.
