Narcissus
Our collection of narcissus (popularly known as daffodils), features predominantly the smaller varieties and some species. These have the advantage of being useful in containers as well as borders and are especially appropriate in smaller gardens. In the open garden they are far more weather resistant than tall, top-heavy types, and they also die down more discreetly, their less obvious foliage being quickly obscured by the surrounding growth of neighbouring plants. Many are eminently suitable for naturalising. Last year, we added a couple of historic varieties, which can be difficult to come by but which we love for their elegant informality. These proved popular with customers and are offered again this season.
AGM denotes the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.
Narcissus albus plenus odoratus
'Heirloom' variety with lovely, fragrant, double flowers which resemble miniature white roses. This is the double flowered form of the pheasant's eye narcisus and can be hard to come by. Flowering in late spring at 12-14" (30-36cm).

Narcissus Angel's Whisper AGM
New for 2024
Charming little triandrus hybrid, with gently fragrant, soft yellow flowers, held 3 to 4 per stem. This is our recommended substitute for the very popular, and similar, 'Hawera', which is currently unavailable. Flowering in early spring at 10" (25cm).

Narcissus canaliculatus
Daintiness personified – Miniature wild variety with each stem carrying 3-4 flowers sweetly scented flowers of white with golden cups in March/April. Hardy bulb for naturalising in the border or rock garden where they can enjoy full sun and a summer baking. Ht.6" (15cm)

Narcissus fernandesii var. cordubensis
Charming little species from SW Spain, which punches well above it's weight in terms of fragrance and flower power. Each stem yields several gleaming gold blooms with an exceptionally strong, sweet scent. Needs a warm, sheltered position with well-drained soil, where it can enjoy a dry summer rest. Ideal also for growing in pots in the greenhouse. Flowering March/April at 10" (25cm).

We have long grown this lovely cyclamineus narcissus in our garden, so it is something of an oversight that it has not been included in our mail order collection until now. The swept back petals are ivory and the trumpet yellow. Ht. 8" (20cm)

Narcissus 'Kedron'
A jonquilla hybrid, with flowers of delightful apricot colouring. The leaves are very fine - almost grass-like - meaning that they die back very discretely after flowering is finished. As a further bonus, the blooms have a lovely fragrance.
This variety has been immensely popular when we have displayed it at shows and it also gained a 'Best Buy' recommendation from 'Gardening Which'...
Narcissus 'Lieke'
This pretty little jonquil is grown by a friend in Holland and is named after his daughter. Late flowering, it has white petals and a small lemon-green cup, with the good scent typical of its group.
The variety has won plaudits from 'Which Gardening' for its long flowering period (45 days recorded) and prolific flowering, producing 3 stems per bulb, each bearing 3 flowers. Height 14" (36cm).
