Hyacinths
We have selected our own favourite varieties, chosen for their richness of colour (and scent, of course!). We normally use them in containers in their first year, preferring to plant them out in subsequent years, when the flowers have reverted to a more informal form, suited to naturalistic plantings. For a truly 'natural' look, the roman hyacinths (hyacinthus romeinse) are also deserving of garden space and are often hard to come by these days.
Hyacinths usually begin flowering in late March, right through April, with many continuing to bloom into May. We like to place containers of hyacinths near doorways, windows and seating areas, where we will have maximum benefit of the scent.
Note that hyacinths are the only bulbs that we do not offer in top size, due to the need to individually support the flower heads produced by the largest bulbs - life really is too short for this!
