We have had this fine old variety in our private collection for many years, occasionally making plants available for visitors to the nursery. Now, we are able to offer it on a more commercial scale, although supply is still very limited. 'Admiral Rawlings' is a strong grower, producing far more height than most dahlias, and has beautiful decorative type blooms of rich purplish red, with darker tones...

When Verwer dahlias (breeders of many of the best known modern dahlias) decided to raise a ball series, it was a dead cert that something good would come out of it. This lovely recent introduction follows a trend of breeders raising dahlias with flowers which have complementary colours on the top and underside of the petals. In this case, the petals sport pink-lilac & burgundy-purple hues and the plants themselves are petite enough to grow at the front of a border or in containers. Added bonus is dusky foliage. We love the unusual colour combination in the flowers of this striking variety. The petals of 'old' pink have a slight twist which reveals the cranberry undersides. It reminds us of antique velvet cushions - rich yet slightly faded (and very modern!).
