Camassia

These native North American bulbs are easy and immensely rewarding to grow. They favour damp, heavy soil, where they build into good-sized colonies in time, but are remarkably tolerant in most respects. By choosing different varieties, the flowering display can be extended from early May until mid-June, starting with the blue c.leichtlinii caerulea & 'Blue Heaven', followed by c.cusickii, c.Zwanenberg, c.leichtlinii alba and, finally, c.leichtlinii 'Sacajawea' and the double-flowered c.leichtlinii semiplena. The shorter c.esculenta presents its dark blue flowers midway in this period.

Please note that these bulbs are available to order on-line from July, for despatch from September onwards. In season (May/June), we also have limited stock of potted bulbs, in flower or bud, available to personal callers to the nursery.

New in 2023 We have grown this lovely pink form of camassia in our border for many years and now have stock for sale. It remains fairly uncommon at present, as its price reflects.
